In Kyiv, They Announced Those Who Did Not Agree With the “Formula of Peace” in Saudi Arabia

Many countries ruled out any compromises regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, Yermak said. Russia demands to recognize “new territorial realities” behind it and stop supplying weapons to Kyiv

Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the President of Ukraine, acknowledged that not all points of Kyiv’s “peace formula” were agreed upon at the talks in Jeddah, his words are quoted by Evropeyska Pravda.

“If all countries had already said: “Yes, we agree with everything,” then we would have already hosted a “peace summit” by the end of the month. There are points on which there are no objections at all, and there are those on which the dialogue continues,” he said.

Many countries ruled out any compromises regarding the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Ukraine, Yermak said. At the same time, no agreement could be reached with the countries of the global South on such “difficult points” as Russia’s responsibility. “But not because they are against it, but because they demand more explanations of how this will happen,” explained the head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office. “Today, no other initiatives are being considered, except for Zelensky’s peace plan,” he concluded.

Negotiations in Saudi Arabia took place on 5 August. Politico called their goal the unification of the countries of the global South with Europe and the United States around the Ukrainian peace plan. However, according to The Wall Street Journal, this time Kiev did not insist on adopting its “peace formula”. More than 40 countries participated in the meeting, including China. Russia was not invited to it. The next talks may take place in one of the countries of the global South, Le Point reports .

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, commenting on the talks in Jeddah, named three conditions for the success of peace proposals in Ukraine: the participation of both sides of the conflict in the settlement, taking into account the historical context, as well as current realities. “The mediator who is ready to admit these obvious things has a chance of success. All others – none,” Medvedev is convinced.
