The preparation by the Russians of fighting dolphins to defend their base of the Black Sea Fleet in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol is a story more about budget financing than about protecting the fleet from Ukrainian saboteurs.
Military expert Vladislav Seleznev spoke about this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine .
“They can hardly be implemented in practice. I think the Russians are doing the same, but at the expense of the Russian Ministry of Defense, since both the base and the dolphins remained. I have serious doubts about the effectiveness of these practices,” Seleznev said.
According to the expert, this is quite typical for the Russian budget. For example, recall at least the Kinzhal hypersonic missile, which supposedly has no analogues and successfully shoots down Ukrainian air defenses. And work with fighting dolphins can also be attributed to this category.
Seleznev also commented on the possibility of saboteur operations in Sevastopol. According to him, it is unlikely that Ukrainian combat swimmers have the opportunity to land in this area. To do this, you need to secretly approach the coast, which is almost impossible in the conditions of constantly on sonar and radar in the Sevastopol Bay and the Black Sea.
“There are already enough partisans in Crimea, their work does not require the implementation of such an algorithm of actions. We see that “cotton” is found all the time on the peninsula. And in the case of a large-scale landing on Sevastopol, what use can dolphins be? None ” – added the expert.
However, Seleznev noted that Sevastopol should not be regarded as an impregnable fortress. Previously, maritime drones penetrated its bay, and probably Ukraine is probing for weaknesses with the help of technological solutions. While the Russian story with dolphins proves that the enemy is not ready to abandon outdated practices.
Russia strengthens the defense of the fleet base in Sevastopol with fighting dolphins
The Russians are trying to strengthen the defense of their base of the Black Sea Fleet in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. To do this, they use fighting dolphins .
According to media reports, Russia could double the number of fighting dolphins guarding the Sevastopol Bay. This may be due to the fact that the invaders “fear the threat of attack from the special forces of Ukraine.”
About how Russia can use dolphins and whether this will affect operations in the Crimea, read in the material RBC-Ukraine.
Use of fighting dolphins by Russia
Recall that earlier the media have already written that Russia uses combat dolphins in its defense of strategic facilities .
In particular, Meduza reported that such dolphins, taken from oceanariums in Crimea, guard the Crimean Bridge. There they must find potential threats at a depth of up to 60 meters.
