Germany should be ready to help Ukraine more “if others weaken.” Scholz said this at a party conference in Berlin.
The German publication NTV believes that the chancellor thus hinted at the unclear political situation in the United States, where aid to Ukraine is hanging.
He also again stated that the war in Ukraine will continue for a long time. “This war will probably not end any time soon,” so it is important “that we can do what is necessary for a long time,” Scholz added.
Scholz also recalled that the war in Ukraine “had consequences that also affected us,” referring to high energy prices. He acknowledged this as a “serious financial problem” for Germany.
