The US has done “everything possible” to meet Russia’s demands for a reopening of the grain deal .
This was stated in an interview with RFI by the head of the State Department, Anthony Blinken.
“With regard to specific indications of potential problems such as banking, transportation and so on, we have done everything to make sure these issues are resolved,” the Secretary of State said.
According to him, he personally wrote letters to American banks and explained that Washington “absolutely” supported the export of Russian grain. “There should be no fears about sanctions, from which Russian grain, transportation, insurance, and so on have been withdrawn,” Blinken said.
He also spoke about the proposal from the UN for Russia, which “answers all the concerns of Moscow.” However, the Kremlin, according to Blinken, did not react to it, so the extension of the deal is “not a matter of concessions.”
Recall that in order to return to the deal, Russia demands to connect Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT system and resume the operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline. And also to resolve the issue of insurance of Russian ships by foreign insurers. So far, these requirements have not been met .
